My volunteer trip to Uganda was both my first (and definitely not the last!) journey to Africa. From the moment I walked through the gate of Window of Life, I knew I would feel good in this place.
The aunties, as well as the children themselves, quickly helped me get into the rhythm and routine of everyday life at the home. That’s how my adventure with washing dishes, folding clothes, sorting beans, and making chapati began — which, by the way, became my favorite activity. Soon it also became natural to pick up the children from school, help them with homework in the evenings, and go shopping at the market every week. Of course, I can’t forget to mention eating mangoes straight from the tree — an inseparable part of each day.
The highlight of my stay was the move to the new building, which both the children and aunties welcomed with great joy. The larger space, new beds, and wardrobes will definitely benefit the whole family.
Four weeks in Masindi flew by so quickly, and it’s hard to believe I didn’t stay longer. Window of Life creates a wonderful home for children to grow up in — one that offers support at every step and a place they can always return to.
