I could say it was a coincidence, but I believe it was written somewhere long ago – the stay in Masindi, one of those adventures in life that sticks in your memory and to which your thoughts return. And when you think about it, your heart warms. These are exactly my feelings when I think about the kids and the wonderful women who make every effort each day to provide these children with a home.
I arrived in Masindi before Easter, which immediately gave me the opportunity to participate in the life of the local community.
At home, preparations for a shared feast took place: the children put on festive clothes, and the aunties prepared a special meal. On Easter Sunday, a visit to the local church and immense joy with singing and dancing. It was wonderful to see smiling faces all around.
Then ordinary life began, as everything returned to its order – a routine that had always associated with something negative for me turned out to be something wonderful 🙂
Taking the older children to school and picking them up in the afternoon was great fun – I learned something new every time. At home, I spent a lot of time with the youngest residents; oh, they can steal your heart in the blink of an eye, although you also have to earn their trust 😉
It was amazing to watch how quickly they learn new things.
All the children, without exception, absorb our presence and behaviors.
Being there felt like home, I was received very warmly, and I am immensely grateful for that, because it doesn’t happen every day.
